Location, Location, Location. The property is in a neighborhood atmosphere with no signs to advertise our existence. An acre with fruit trees, native plants, and lots of surrounding wildlife.
Our focus is surfing, where instructors live on-site and are ready to surf with you at anytime of the day. We are not open to the general public we only accept advanced bookings from our California office.
Being the first surf school here in Playa Guiones, we had the best location options since the beach was undiscovered at the time. The beach trail is a four minute walk through a protected wildlife refuge. This beach entrance is away from other surf schools and the commercialism of the beach community.
We get all directions of swell; north, northwest, south, southwest swells. During the rainy season the swells have a tendency to be larger and faster. This beach is ideal for all levels of surfing because the conditions are constantly changing.
We are exposed to various types of waves, giving us more practice in all types of conditions. The break is a sand bottom beach break which gradually deepens, providing a surging, mushy, slower longboard type wave.
First light is at about 5:15 AM and the sun sets at about 6:15 PM. During our summer season, mid November to mid April the weather and temperature will be more consistent, compared to the rainy season. The water temperature is warm all year. Air temperatures range from 80 to 90 degrees during the day and about 75 degrees at night. The wind typically blows off shore in out “summer” months beginning at sunrise. The onshore generally does not blow hard enough to cause white caps. Usually it glasses off by about 5:00pm. In the tropics the weather can change at anytime. Typically the rainy season starts at the end of April and continues through the beginning of November with the possibility of rain and sun everyday. July or August can produce what the locals call “veranillo de San Juan” and it may not rain at all. The rain does not prevent us from surfing, it enhances the experience.
