The
Location
We are in a little beach hamlet off the beaten surf track on the
Nicoya Peninsula. The local Tico village population is about 2500
people. The beach and resort of Americans and Europeans is about 500
people. The nearest paved road is 40 miles. We have the local government
doctors and a private physician in Nosara. No shots are necessary for
travel to Costa Rica.

The sun rises at about 5:15AM and sets about 5:40PM. The water
temperature is 80 degrees all year. During the dry season mid November
to mid April the weather and temperature are very consistent. In the
range of 80 to 90 degrees during the day and about 75 degrees at night.
The wind blows off shore beginning at sunrise. It will continue until
about 10:30am or 11:00am then it will lay down for about an hour. The
onshore wind will begin at about 12:00pm and blow until about 3:00pm. It
generally does not blow hard enough to cause white caps.
Usually it glasses off by about 4:00pm. Remember this is the tropics
and the weather can change at anytime very rapidly. The wet season
typically is the end of April to beginning of November with the
possibility of rain. May and June it may rain in the afternoons and at
night. July can produce the Indian Summer and it may not rain at all.
August can go pretty much like July.
The Swells
People are constantly asking about the swells. It is my
belief that Costa Rica has some of the most consistent swells in the
world because it is in the center of the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, if
there is a swell out in the Pacific Ocean it is hitting Costa Rica. In
my experience generally the swells are 3ft to 8ft in the dry season. We
get north, northwest, south, southwest swells. During the wet season the
swells can have tendency to be larger.
